We’re hiring an Assistant Manager

We are looking for an assistant manager to join our lovely team at Five Acre Farm Shop to work alongside our other Assistant Manager and General Manager.

The role involves being the onsite day manager, opening and closing the shop, supervising the team and running the shop floor shifts.

The ideal candidate will

  • Have previous experience in a management or a supervisory role in a customer service focused, fast-paced retail or hospitality environment.
  • Have the ability to be calm under pressure and prioritise tasks
  • Be a strong team leader
  • Have a passion for good food
  • Have an understanding of stock management
  • Lead on providing a great customer experience

Not essential but desirable

  • A clean car driving licence
  • Barista experience

Hours

30-40 hours per week dependent on candidate.

Job description

Personnel management

  • Assist with team development and training.
  • Lead and inspire the team to achieve their best potential.
  • Work with the manager to ensure good team training.
  • Support and guide the team to carry out their roles.
  • Work with the manager to develop a long-term training strategy.
  • Be a cool head in a crisis.

Shift Management

  • Supervise the team and manage the day-to-day operation of the shop.
  • Open and close the shop in line with company guidance.

What your day may look like

  • Setting up the shop ready for opening, ensuring it is clean and tidy and free of hazards. The shop should look well stocked and abundant.
  • Lead and support the team, deal with any customer issues, and liaise with Five Acre Farm Kitchen.
  • Manage team breaks, ensure staff get their food breaks and manage the timing.
  • Stock management-check off deliveries that arrive and put out stock or shelve in the storeroom.
  • End of day procedure to manage the shop closing and all tasks required.
  • Cash up and run end of day processes.
  • Report/highlight any issues to the manager.

Customer service

  • Lead and excel on great customer service.
  • Work with the manager to develop an even better customer experience.

Financial Management

  • Process end of day and end of week paperwork.
  • Work with the manager to ensure/improve an efficient purchase order and invoice management system.
  • Help drive sales.
  • Understand and work with financial targets and work alongside the management team to help achieve those targets.

Stock Management/systems

  • Work with the team to check off deliveries and report any stock discrepancies.
  • Carry out regular date checking (particularly of chilled stock) to ensure good stock rotation and minimise waste.
  • Work with the team to build good displays of fresh produce.
  • Quality control of fresh produce, good stock rotation and management.
  • Assist with product ordering.
  • Work with the manager to develop better systems to improve efficiency.

Health & Safety and Food Safety management

  • Ensure the food safety management system is complied with.
  • Work with the management team and any relevant parties to ensure the shop is clean and tidy and safe, to report any maintenance issues to the manager and facilities manager.
  • Be a nominated first aider.
