bertha’s pizza
‘At the heart of what we do is the guiding belief that delicious pizza is simple – great ingredients on great bread‘
Bertha’s Pizza is a Bristol institution for proper sourdough wood-fired pizzas. Find them behind their iconic yellow doors at the top of Wapping Wharf in the historic Harbourside. Having travelled the world and found their calling in slinging delicious pizzas, they toured the market circuit in their trusty yellow Land Rover before settling into their first bricks and mortar.
We have invited Bertha’s down to chat and share news and samples of their frozen range – a firm staff favourite since it’s launch!
‘Our frozen range of Neapolitan pizzas gives people restaurant quality pizza in their own home. Staying true to our restaurant we use the same high quality ingredients and techniques, hand stretching and cooking the bases at 500C, then we finish topping them, vacuum pack and freeze – its just your oven, not ours, that finishes it.’
RADEK’S CHOCOLATE
‘Made with ethically sourced cocoa beans grown by farmers respecting human rights, biodiversity and cocoa forestry. Firstly the beans are hand sorted, carefully roasted, cracked and winnowed. We then stone grind the nibs with coconut sugar and cocoa butter before we temper and finally wrap these limited edition bars. We are proud to be Bristol’s first bean to bar chocolate maker.‘
Radek’s story starts in 2008; with beginnings forging his culinary skills at the award winning vegetarian restaurant Cafe Maitreya. But, soon the cacao was calling… and Radek applied all his knowledge and skills to building the artisan chocolate brand we know and love today. If you love beautiful crafted chocolate, with a conscience – come on down and meet the team!
vintage roots wine
‘We’ve always believed that ‘organic’ is simply the way wine should be. We source the very best organic and biodynamic wines we can find, at prices you can afford. Great wines always begin in the vineyard, from the roots up.‘
Vintage Roots organic wine’s journey first began in 1986 thanks to the government’s then ‘Enterprise Allowance scheme’ which gave entrepreneurs the princely sum of £40 a week for a year to launch a new business… Off the back of this incentive three twenty-something friends took to the road in France in a Citroen – neatly folded maps and lists of organic vineyard addresses in hand – and returned with a boot filled with delicious wine… And the rest is history!
Join us at the shop to sample what the team is most passionate about – and find out how their company has grown… yet still remains true to their original ethos of ‘great organic wines and a bold organic outlook’.
